Originally from Texas, Bob Zeissel moved his family to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1986. After retiring from the insurance industry, the family moved to Las Cruces in 2005. It was shortly thereafter that Bob was able to fulfill a longtime desire to pursue his love of art.

Bob had always had the ability to draw and at one time had wanted to become an architect. Family and job responsibilities kept that from materializing until he began taking some art classes from local artists.

He started out in watercolor and moved into pastel and then oil. Self-taught, Bob is trying to make up for lost time. Thoroughly enjoying this change of career, he has intensified his progress through books and videos, and in taking as many workshops as he can. Some of his workshop instructors have been Laurel Weathersbee, Nancy Frost Begin and Julie Ford Oliver.

Workshops away from home have included Michael Chesney Johnson and Alan Flattmann for pastel, Marian Alstad and Woody Duncan for watercolor, and Kevin Weckbach for oil.

Bob is a member of New Mexico Watercolor Society, Las Cruces Art Association, Black Range Artists, El Paso Pastel Society and The Artists’ Guild.

He is an avid photographer and paints most of his subjects from photos, but he also likes to paint plein air.
